Haibei Amidongsuo Area

Amidongsuo, also known as "Qilian Mountain’s Holy Peak," is a sacred alpine sanctuary in Qinghai Province, revered by Tibetan Buddhists as the dwelling of the goddess Dorje Tröllö. Rising 5,254 meters above sea level, it is the highest peak in the Qilian Range, offering a dramatic interplay of glaciers, meadows, and juniper forests. Designated a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction and UNESCO Geopark, it blends mythical legends with pristine wilderness, earning it the nickname “The Roof of Qilian.”

Historical Overview

Amidongsuo has been a pilgrimage site since the 7th century, when Tibetan King Songtsän Gampo linked it to the goddess Tsandema. Local Mongolian and Tibetan communities have long considered it the abode of mountain deities, leaving prayer flags and stone cairns along its slopes. Modern conservation began in 1988 with the establishment of Qilian Mountain National Park, which protects its alpine ecosystems. In 2017, it became a UNESCO Global Geopark, recognizing its geological significance as a window into the Tibetan Plateau’s formation.

Structural Layout

The mountain is divided into three ecological zones:

  1. Alpine Zone: Above 4,000 meters, featuring glaciers, snowfields, and the “Goddess Summit.”
  2. Subalpine Zone: Home to alpine meadows, edelweiss fields, and nomadic yak herders.
  3. Forest Zone: Lush juniper and spruce forests sheltering Tibetan antelope and snowcocks.
Key infrastructure includes 15km of pilgrimage trails, 8 viewing platforms, and the “Sky Ladder” cable car.

Major Attractions

  1. Goddess Summit: A 5,254-meter pyramid crowned with a golden prayer wheel, reachable via a 6-hour trek.
  2. Thousand-Buddha Cliff: A rock face carved with 1,088 Tang Dynasty-era Buddha statues.
  3. Eternal Glacier: A 3km-long ice field feeding the Datong River, visible from the “Crystal Viewpoint.”
  4. Nomad Yurt Camp: Traditional Mongolian yurts offering fermented mare’s milk and horseback rides.
  5. Sacred Lake: A turquoise glacial tarn where pilgrims leave offerings of tsampa (Roasted barley flour).

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
